Welcome to Day 25 of the Brothers’ One-Year Bible Reading Plan. Today, we complete the final day of our third phase.

After leaving his homeland, settling the dispute with Lot, receiving the covenant of circumcision, and miraculously receiving Isaac—the son of promise—in his old age, Abraham’s spiritual journey culminates in its highest peak and fiercest trial: God commands Abraham to offer his beloved, only son Isaac as a burnt offering on Mount Moriah.

Isaac was not only the treasure of Abraham's old age, but also the sole legal vehicle for all of God’s covenant promises ("in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed"). Surrendering Isaac required Abraham to undergo total emotional, intellectual, and spiritual detachment. Yet, Abraham did not hesitate or debate with God; he rose early in the morning, journeyed for three days with Isaac, built the altar, and stretched forth his hand with the knife. At that precise moment, the Angel of the Lord stayed his hand and revealed a ram caught in a thicket as a substitute.

As protectors of our homes and builders of careers, we all possess our own "Isaacs"—our most cherished achievements, our children upon whom we pin all our hopes, our careers, or our prized reputations. Today’s scripture proclaims a profound truth to every brother: Only when you are willing to surrender your "Isaac" back to God according to His will do you truly possess him; and only in complete obedience do we witness the glorious reality of "Jehovah-Jireh"—the Lord Will Provide.

22 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

15 And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

19 So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

Today's Devotional: The Pinnacle of Faith: Offering Isaac on Mount Moriah, Jehovah-Jireh Will Provide 🛡️ 

The altar on Mount Moriah stands as one of the most breathtaking portraits of faith in human history. Here, Abraham achieved the greatest milestone of spiritual leadership:

1. Beware of Loving the Gift More Than the Giver — Releasing Your Personal "Isaac"

Isaac was God's promised gift, Abraham's priceless joy. Yet over time, the boy could subtly occupy the throne of Abraham's heart that belonged to God alone, becoming an unwitting idol. God’s trial was not designed to destroy Isaac, but to purify Abraham’s love—to ensure Abraham loved the Giver far more than the gift.

Brothers, what is the "Isaac" in your life? Is it your hard-won career? Is it your child into whom you have poured all your unfulfilled dreams? Is it your control or personal reputation? When these things become more precious to us than God, they transform into heavy chains. Only a brother who dares to place his "Isaac" upon the altar in prayer experiences true spiritual freedom.

2. Walking by Faith, Not by Sight — Real Obedience Requires No Full Explanation

Faced with seemingly contradictory commands (that God would multiply his offspring through Isaac, yet demanding Isaac's sacrifice), how could Abraham obey so resolutely? The New Testament reveals his reasoning: Abraham accounted that God was able to raise Isaac up, even from the dead (Hebrews 11:19). He did not understand the details, but he trusted God's character and power implicitly.

Brothers, at critical junctures in life, God’s path may defy human logic or career wisdom. Yet true obedience does not require us to see the entire roadmap, but simply to trust the Guide. When we step out into the dark in faith, God's deliverance appears right at the moment of maximum need.

3. Jehovah-Jireh and the Shadow of the Cross — Ultimate Provision on the Mountain

As Abraham raised the knife, God called out from heaven and provided a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham named the site "Jehovah-Jireh"—In the Mount of the Lord It Shall Be Provided.

This was not merely Abraham's personal miracle, but a prophetic archetype of Jesus Christ! Centuries later, on the very same mountain range (Mount Moriah / Calvary), God the Father did not spare His own Son, but freely delivered Him up for us all as the unblemished Lamb of God. Brothers, if God did not withhold His own Son to secure our eternal salvation, will He fail to provide for your daily needs, family concerns, and career crises?

Almighty Father, Faithful and Covenant-Keeping God:

We bow before Your presence today with profound awe, worship, and thanksgiving! Thank You for showing us through Genesis Chapter 22 the absolute pinnacle of faith and the depth of Your eternal love on Mount Moriah.

Lord, we confess that we often cling tightly to the blessings, family members, achievements, and security You give us, subtly elevating them above You. When called to sacrifice, surrender, or let go, we struggle with anxiety, fear, and doubt. Forgive our spiritual blindness, and wash us clean through the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

Father, grant every brother the unshakeable faith of Abraham! Teach us when facing life's greatest tests not to measure circumstances by human logic, but to march forward trusting Your power and faithfulness. Help us surrender our "Isaacs" onto Your altar, knowing that whatever is entrusted to Your hands is forever safe and multiplied.

Above all, Father, we praise You for Calvary! Thank You that You did not spare Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, but provided Him as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Since You have given us Christ, we declare with confidence that in every coming challenge, You will surely provide on Your holy mountain!
