Day 209 of the Women’s Bible Plan: Read 2 Timothy 1:3-5 and reflect on Lois and Eunice, the grandmother and mother whose unfeigned faith deeply shaped Timothy’s life. Through their quiet but powerful influence, this devotional helps women consider how sincere faith in the home can bless the next generation through prayer, example, daily faithfulness, and spiritual companionship.
Some spiritual influence does not happen on a platform. It does not always come through a public ministry or a dramatic moment. Very often, faith is first seen at home: in prayers around the table, in a mother’s tears as she still leans on the Lord, in a grandmother’s gentle reminder, and in the way children watch adults face pressure, failure, relationships, and choices in daily life.
2 Timothy 1:3-5 is Paul’s tender encouragement to Timothy. As Paul remembers Timothy, he remembers his tears and his unfeigned faith. This faith did not appear suddenly. Paul specifically says that this faith first dwelt in Timothy’s grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, and now he is persuaded that it dwells in Timothy also.
In just a few verses, we see the preciousness of faith passed down through family. Lois and Eunice did not leave behind many recorded deeds or long speeches in Scripture. Yet their sincere faith deeply influenced Timothy, who later became Paul’s beloved spiritual son and a servant used by God in the church.
2 Timothy is a letter Paul wrote to Timothy near the end of his life. It carries the warmth of a father’s love, encouragement, and spiritual charge. In 2 Timothy 1:3-5, Paul says that he remembers Timothy without ceasing in his prayers night and day. He longs to see him, remembers his tears, and calls to mind the unfeigned faith that is in him. What is especially meaningful is that Paul does not praise Timothy’s faith as though it appeared in isolation. He traces it back through the family: this faith first dwelt in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice.
“Unfeigned faith” is one of the key phrases in this passage. It is not an outward religious habit or a spiritual appearance meant to impress others. It is sincere, honest, genuine faith without pretending. This kind of faith can be felt by children and leaves a deep mark in family life. Children do not only hear what we say; they also watch whom we rely on under pressure, whom we pray to in disappointment, whether we are willing to repent when we are wrong, and whether we live with grace in our relationships.
Lois and Eunice remind us that the home is a powerful place of spiritual formation. Faith is not only something that appears on Sundays, and it is not only built through classes, gatherings, or knowledge. Faith is also passed down in daily life: how we face difficulty, how we handle conflict, how we pray, how we read God’s Word, how we return to the Lord in weakness, and how we live out grace before those closest to us.
This does not mean parents or older believers must be perfect in order to influence the next generation. On the contrary, unfeigned faith is not flawless performance. It is genuine trust in God. It is willing to admit weakness, seek the Lord, return after failure, and live God’s Word honestly in the home. Such faith often touches the heart of the next generation more deeply than a perfect appearance ever could.
Today’s theme, “Lois and Eunice: Passing Down a Heritage of Faith,” invites us to reflect: What kind of faith do others see in my home? Do I only hope my children or family will know God, or do I also allow them to see God’s grace at work in my life? Whether we are mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, spiritual companions, or women walking with younger lives in the church, God can use our sincere faith to influence the next generation.
1 Paul speaks of the “unfeigned faith” in Timothy and says that this faith first dwelt in Lois and Eunice. How do you understand unfeigned faith? In your family life, does your faith remain mostly an outward form, or can it be seen in real situations by those closest to you?
2 The influence of Lois and Eunice may not have come through public preaching, but through faithful spiritual companionship at home. Has there been an older believer, mother, grandmother, spiritual sister, or church member who influenced you through genuine faith? What did you learn from her life?
3 If you are walking with children, young people, family members, or younger believers, what do you most want to pass on to them? Is it outward behavior only, or a heart that truly loves the Lord, prays, repents, and depends on God?
As you read 2 Timothy 1:3-5 today, do not see this passage only as Paul’s praise of Timothy. Also notice Lois and Eunice, two women whose quiet faith had a deep and lasting influence on the next generation. Their story reminds us that unfeigned faith in the home may be far more powerful than we realize.
Take a quiet breath before you begin. Bring your family, children, parents, younger believers, and the true shape of your faith at home before the Lord, and let His Word meet you there.
“When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”
— 2 Timothy 1:5
3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
✨ Thank you for walking through today’s Scripture with us, dear sister.
2 Timothy 1:3-5 shows us that Timothy’s unfeigned faith was closely connected to the heritage of faith in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. God used sincere, quiet, steady faith within a family to shape the life of the next generation. Now, let us bring our families, children, elders, spiritual influence, and daily witness before the Lord in prayer.

Asking God for Sincere and Unfeigned Faith
Father, thank You for reminding me through Lois and Eunice that You value not outward godliness, but sincere and unfeigned faith. Lord, I confess that sometimes I may appear spiritual outside the home, yet become impatient, discouraged, complaining, or easily frustrated at home. Sometimes I want my family to know You, but I forget to let them see Your grace in my daily life.
Please renew my heart, so that my faith will not remain only in words and forms, but be lived out in real situations each day. Teach me to pray under pressure, humble myself in conflict, return to You in weakness, and depend on You when I am tired. May my family see not a perfect person, but a person who truly needs the Lord and is truly being changed by Him. Amen.

Living a Faith That Can Be Passed On
Lord, the faith of Lois and Eunice did not stop with themselves. It deeply influenced Timothy. Please help me treasure the spiritual influence You have placed within family life. Whether I am a mother, daughter, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, or spiritual companion walking with younger lives, may my life become a window through which others can see You.
Teach me how to pass on faith in daily life—not only through correction and expectations, but through love, example, prayer, listening, and truth. Help me speak of Your Word with children, family members, and younger believers, and also be willing to admit my own weakness and need before them. May our homes become not only places where we live together, but places where we learn to trust You, experience Your grace, and support one another in love. Amen.

Praying for the Hearts of the Next Generation
Father, I place the next generation into Your hands. Whether they are my children, the children of relatives, young people in the church, or lives You have entrusted me to accompany, please draw their hearts personally to You. May they inherit not merely a religious habit, but a real knowledge of You. May they not only know Bible information, but experience Your love, forgiveness, guidance, and power in their lives.
Lord, protect them in this complicated generation. Do not let them be carried away by false values, comparison, anxiety, addiction, or overwhelming pressure. May unfeigned faith dwell in their hearts also. When they are confused, may they seek You. When they are weak, may they return to You. As they grow, may they experience Your personal leading. Help us as adults not to replace prayer with control, or trust with anxiety, but to entrust them to You. Amen.

Interceding for Families
Father, I also pray for the families and sisters around me. You know that many mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers are praying quietly for their children and loved ones. Some are tired. Some are worried about their children’s faith. Some are weeping over family relationships. Some feel that their influence is very small.
Lord, strengthen them. Let them know that every gentle prayer, every sincere repentance, every patient companionship, and every truth spoken in love is not in vain. Give them wisdom—not using fear to push children, but using faith to hold them before You; not oppressing themselves with a perfect image, but walking faithfully in Your grace. May our churches also become communities that support faith formation in families, so that different generations may bless and learn from one another. Amen.
After reading 2 Timothy 1:3-5, we see that Timothy’s unfeigned faith did not appear in isolation. That faith first dwelt in his grandmother Lois and in his mother Eunice, and now it dwelt in him also. Lois and Eunice are only briefly mentioned by name, yet they show us that sincere faith within a family can quietly but deeply influence the next generation.
As we close this page and return to our homes and daily life, perhaps you are not someone standing on a platform, and perhaps few people see your service. But your children, family members, younger believers, and those near you are reading the shape of faith through your life. The way you face pressure, apologize, pray, and return to the Lord in weakness can become a visible testimony.
May today’s Scripture remind you not to despise the spiritual influence of the home. May your faith not remain only on your lips, but shine in ordinary daily life. May God cause unfeigned faith to take root in your heart and, through your gentle, sincere, and steady witness, bless the next generation.
