Day 86 of the Women’s Bible Plan: Read 2 Timothy 1:3-5 and reflect on Lois and Eunice, the grandmother and mother of Timothy. Through their quiet but powerful influence, this devotional helps women see how faith can be passed down within the family, and how a godly woman’s prayers, example, teaching, and daily witness can shape the next generation.
Some influence is not loud, yet it is deep. Some ministry does not happen on a platform, yet it can shape a person’s entire life. A prayer spoken in the home, a mother’s example, a grandmother’s faith, and a quiet but sincere life before God can plant seeds of faith in a child’s heart.
In 2 Timothy Chapter 1, Paul writes to his young coworker Timothy. Timothy later became an important servant in the church and was dearly loved by Paul. Yet when Paul remembered Timothy’s faith, he did not only mention Timothy’s own gifts or ministry. He also remembered two women behind his spiritual life: his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice.
Paul says that he remembers the “unfeigned faith” in Timothy, a faith that first dwelt in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, and that Paul was persuaded also dwelt in Timothy. These few verses remind us that faith is not only passed down through information, but through real life. Children do not only hear what we say; they also watch how we believe, how we pray, how we face hardship, how we love the Lord, and how we live out faith in ordinary days.
2 Timothy is a deeply personal and heartfelt letter from Paul to Timothy. In 2 Timothy 1:3-5, Paul tells Timothy that he remembers him constantly in prayer, night and day. He also remembers Timothy’s unfeigned faith. This faith did not appear suddenly; it had a spiritual history. It first dwelt in Timothy’s grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, and then also in Timothy.
Lois and Eunice are not mentioned often in Scripture, but their names are preserved in this letter as a precious reminder for believers throughout the generations. They were not apostles. They were not central figures in missionary journeys. They did not leave behind long speeches. Yet the faith they lived out within the family became an important foundation in Timothy’s spiritual life.
“Unfeigned faith” is the heart of this passage. Unfeigned does not mean perfect or never weak. It means sincere, unhypocritical, and not merely outward. This kind of faith does not stay only in Sunday worship, church gatherings, or spiritual language. It is revealed in family life, daily choices, tears, patience, teaching, prayer, repentance, and trust.
Eunice as Timothy’s mother and Lois as his grandmother likely taught him the Scriptures from his childhood. Later, Paul would remind Timothy that from a child he had known the holy Scriptures. This reminds us that spiritual formation in the home does not always have to look like a formal lesson. It may be a daily prayer, a Bible verse before bedtime, a response shaped by faith, a moment of trust in difficulty, or a humble apology after failure.
Today’s theme, “Lois and Eunice: Passing Down Unfeigned Faith,” invites us to reflect: Is our faith sincere enough to be seen by those closest to us? Are we willing to live out an unpretending faith in the home, in relationships, and before the next generation? God can use a mother, a grandmother, a spiritual mentor, or a sister in Christ to plant seeds of faith in quiet family life and bring fruit in His time.
1 Paul speaks of Timothy’s “unfeigned faith.” How do you understand sincere faith? Are there times when we may appear strong, spiritual, or peaceful in public, yet lose honesty, gentleness, or trust before those closest to us at home?
2 The faith of Lois and Eunice influenced Timothy. Has there been a mother, grandmother, spiritual mentor, teacher, or sister in Christ whose sincere faith shaped your own walk with the Lord? What part of her life still encourages you today?
3 If you are a mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, small group leader, or someone walking with the younger generation, what kind of faith do you hope to pass on? Are you passing down only rules and outward forms, or are you showing them a life that truly loves the Lord, trusts God, repents humbly, and prays honestly?
As you read 2 Timothy 1:3-5 today, do not underestimate the power of faith passed down in the home. Do not despise the example formed in quiet, ordinary days. The names of Lois and Eunice remind us that a woman’s sincere faith can leave a deep spiritual influence in the lives of children, families, and future generations.
Take a quiet breath before you begin. Bring your family, the next generation, your spiritual influence, and your desire for sincere faith before the Lord, and let His Word meet you there.
“When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”
— 2 Timothy 1:5
3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
✨ Thank you for walking through today’s Scripture with us, dear sister.
2 Timothy 1:3-5 shows us that Timothy’s unfeigned faith was deeply connected to his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Their faith, teaching, and example within the family became an important foundation for the next generation. Now, let us bring our own faith, families, the next generation, and spiritual influence before the Lord in prayer.

Asking the Lord to Shape Sincere and Unfeigned Faith in Me
Father, thank You for reminding me through Lois and Eunice that You value not only outward religious appearance, but sincere and unfeigned faith. Lord, help me not merely to appear spiritual before others or speak godly words in church gatherings, but to truly trust You in daily life.
When I am weak, help me not to pretend to be strong, but to come honestly before You. When I fail, give me a humble and repentant heart. When I lose patience with those closest to me, remind me that true faith must also be practiced at home. May my faith not be an outward decoration, but a life that is still visible in pressure, tiredness, conflict, and ordinary days. Amen.

Planting the Seeds of God’s Word in the Next Generation
Father, Timothy knew the holy Scriptures from childhood. His faith was not formed by accident. Lord, help me not to underestimate small moments of teaching and companionship. One prayer, one verse, one honest sharing, one gentle encouragement may become a seed in the heart of the next generation.
Give me wisdom to know how to pass Your Word to children and young people in ways they can receive. Give me patience, because faith does not grow in a single day. If I have neglected spiritual companionship because of busyness, weariness, or disappointment, please renew and remind me. Help me care not only about the next generation’s grades, future, and safety, but also whether they know You, love You, and trust You. Amen.
🧑🧑🧒🧒
Father, I also pray for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, teachers, small group leaders, and all sisters who are walking with the next generation. You know that they often feel tired and may wonder whether their efforts make any difference. Some are caring for family, working, serving, and still learning wisdom as they walk with children and young people.
Lord, strengthen them. Let them know that their prayers and examples in the home are not in vain. Give them hearts that are both gentle and firm. Help them not to control children out of anxiety or wound themselves through comparison, but to entrust the next generation to You by faith. Raise up more spiritual mentors who are willing to accompany young people and pass down unfeigned faith through sincere lives. Amen.

Praying for Families and the Next Generation
Compassionate God, I also pray for families and the next generation around the world. Many children are growing up in broken homes, without faithful companionship, under confused values, heavy pressure, and spiritual emptiness. Many parents are also overwhelmed by busyness, anxiety, and limited resources, not knowing how to guide their children in the right way.
Lord, have mercy on this generation. May more families return to Your Word. May parents and elders live out sincere faith before children. May churches become spiritual homes where the next generation can know You, be loved, be taught, and be received. Protect the hearts of children and young people, so that they will not be captured by false values or lose their way in loneliness. Raise up more people like Lois and Eunice, faithfully passing down unfeigned faith in homes and churches. Amen.
After reading 2 Timothy 1:3-5, we see that Timothy’s faith did not appear out of nowhere. Behind his life were the sincere faith of his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Their influence may have grown quietly at home, in daily life, and in places others did not see, yet it became an important foundation for Timothy’s spiritual life.
As we close this page and return to our own families and daily life, perhaps you are walking with children, influencing young people, or simply living out your faith before family and friends. Remember this: real faith leaves traces. It may be hidden in a prayer, a word of comfort, an act of repentance, a verse of Scripture, or the way you continue to trust God when life is difficult.
May today’s Scripture remind you not to despise your spiritual influence in the home. May God help you live out unfeigned faith—not pretending to be perfect, but truly loving the Lord, truly repenting, truly trusting, and truly praying. May this faith flow from your life to your family, children, young people, and many others who need to see the Lord.
