Day 158 of the Women’s Bible Plan: Read Genesis 6:9-22 and reflect on Noah’s family entering the ark. Through Noah’s walk with God, his obedience in building the ark, and the salvation extended to his household, this devotional helps parents and families consider how a parent’s faith can influence the whole family and how obedience to God can prepare spiritual shelter in a difficult generation.
The spiritual direction of a family is often not shaped by one slogan or one big moment. It is formed quietly through daily choices. Children watch how we respond to pressure. A spouse senses how we respond to God. Family members observe in ordinary details whether our faith is only something we say or a path we actually walk.
Genesis Chapter 6 describes a deeply corrupt generation. The wickedness of man was great in the earth, every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually, and the earth was filled with violence. Yet in that kind of generation, Scripture says, “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
Noah’s faith did not affect only himself. He heard God’s word, obeyed God’s command, and prepared the ark. His wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives also entered the salvation God provided. Today, as we reflect on “Noah’s Family Enters the Ark,” we are not only looking at one man’s obedience. We are also seeing how precious it is when a parent fears God and a family is led toward the shelter God provides.
Genesis 6:9-22 records Noah’s generation, God’s judgment upon a sinful world, and God’s command for Noah to build the ark. The passage begins by introducing Noah: “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” This shows us that even in a deeply corrupt environment, someone can still choose to fear God, draw near to God, and listen to God.
God tells Noah that the end of all flesh has come before Him, because the earth is filled with violence. God will bring a flood upon the earth, yet He also commands Noah to build an ark and gives clear instructions about its design, size, and structure. More importantly, God says, “But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.”
This passage fits deeply within the theme of “Parenting and Family.” Noah’s faith did not remain only personal; it affected his entire household. In days when others may not have understood, believed, or even respected what he was doing, Noah continued to prepare the ark according to God’s word. This obedience was not completed in a single day. It was built through long, steady faithfulness.
For parents today, this passage offers a tender and serious reminder. We cannot believe on behalf of our children, and we cannot control every step of their future. But we can live before them as people who truly fear God. The way parents respond to God’s Word, choose obedience under pressure, and remain set apart in a confused generation leaves deep impressions on children’s hearts.
“A parent’s faith influences the whole family” does not mean that parents are perfect or that families will never have struggles. It also does not mean that every choice a child makes is controlled by the parents. Rather, it reminds us that the spiritual atmosphere of a home matters. One person who walks with God can help make the home a place closer to God’s Word, more willing to listen to Him, and more aware of where true refuge is found.
Today’s theme, “Noah’s Family Enters the Ark,” invites us to reflect: In a generation full of temptation, confusion, pressure, and conflicting values, are we willing to walk with God like Noah, listen to His word, and prepare a spiritual ark for our families through practical obedience?
1 Noah walked with God in a corrupt generation. What pressures are shaping your family today? Social media, busyness, academic competition, workplace stress, financial anxiety, relational tension, or cultural values may all be influencing the spiritual direction of your home. Where do you most need to return to God’s Word?
2 God commanded Noah to build the ark, and Noah did according to all that God commanded him. Are there spiritual habits God has already reminded you to build in your home, but you have delayed? Perhaps family prayer, reading Scripture with your children, worship on the Lord’s Day, honest communication, practicing forgiveness, or reducing unhealthy influences?
3 Noah’s obedience affected his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives, and the whole family entered the ark. As a parent, wife, mother, daughter, or member of a household, is God inviting you to become a gentle spiritual influence through your faith, choices, and daily example?
As you read Genesis 6:9-22 today, do not see the ark only as an ancient story. Let it remind you that families need spiritual covering, children need to see real faith, and parents need to be strengthened again before God so they can lead their households toward refuge in Him.
Take a quiet breath before you begin. Bring your family, children, spouse, parents, and your spiritual influence at home before the Lord, and let His Word meet you there.
“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.”
— Genesis 6:22
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.
19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
✨ Thank you for walking through today’s Scripture with us, dear sister.
Genesis 6:9-22 shows us that in a corrupt and violent generation, Noah still walked with God and did according to all that God commanded him. His faith did not concern only himself; it also affected his wife, sons, and daughters-in-law, as the whole household entered the ark. Now, let us bring our families, children, spiritual responsibilities, and examples of faith before the Lord in prayer.
🩷
Walking with God in a Corrupt Generation
Father, thank You for reminding me through Noah that even when an entire generation turns away from You, a person can still choose to walk with You. Lord, I confess that today’s world also pulls our families in many directions: busyness steals our quiet, information scatters our attention, comparison fills us with anxiety, and temptation draws our hearts away from You.
Help me first to walk with You in my own life. Do not let me only want to change my children, my spouse, or my family, while forgetting to return to You myself. Renew my heart so that I may fear You, draw near to You, and obey You in daily life. May my home not be driven by the values of the world, but guided by Your Word; not drifting in confusion, but finding direction in You. Amen.

Preparing a Spiritual Ark for My Family Through Obedience
Lord, Noah heard Your command and obeyed. He did not build the ark in one day, but continued in long and steady obedience. Please help me also to build a spiritual ark in my family—not only crying out to You when crisis comes, but learning to listen to You in ordinary days.
Help me build habits of worship, prayer, Scripture reading, and love within my home. If I have often delayed, give me a new beginning. If I feel that I have not done enough, keep me from discouragement. If my family is not yet willing to join in, give me gentleness, patience, and wisdom. Through small steps of obedience, may I help prepare an atmosphere where my family can draw nearer to You, know You more deeply, and learn to trust You. Amen.

Interceding for Families Around Me
Father, I also pray for parents and families around me. Many parents feel overwhelmed in this generation. They face pressure over children’s education, the influence of phones and the internet, difficulty in parent-child communication, tension in marriage, financial burdens, and the spiritual responsibility of leading children to know You.
Lord, strengthen them. Do not let parents live only in anxiety and guilt, but help them return to You for strength. Give them wisdom—not only to manage their children’s behavior, but to shepherd their children’s hearts. Give them patience, so that they do not wound their families with anger in seasons of exhaustion. Give them faith to believe that You love their children even more than they do. May the church also become a support for families, watching over the next generation together. Amen.

Praying for Families in a Broken World
Compassionate God, I also pray for families throughout the world. Many homes are wounded by war, poverty, displacement, violence, addiction, busyness, broken relationships, and confused values. Many children lack safety, many parents are exhausted, and many families do not know how to face the future.
Lord, have mercy on this generation. Protect children and keep them from harm, deception, and evil. Heal broken families and teach parents again the way of love, responsibility, and forgiveness. Raise up fathers and mothers who fear You and become examples of faith in their homes. Lead more families to find the true ark—salvation, covering, and peace in Christ. Amen.
After reading Genesis 6:9-22, we see that Noah’s faith did not remain hidden in his heart, nor was it only something he spoke about to others. He heard God’s word and obeyed over a long period of time. Board by board, the ark was built, and day by day it stood before his family as a spiritual witness.
As we close this page and return to family life, we may not be able to change the whole generation, and we cannot control every future choice our children will make. But we can begin today with a little more prayer, a little more honesty, a little more obedience, a little more forgiveness, and a home that places God’s Word closer to the center. A parent’s faith may not always look dramatic, but it can leave a lasting mark on the hearts of children and family members.
May today’s Scripture remind you not to underestimate your spiritual influence in the home. May you, like Noah, walk with God in a difficult generation, obey Him faithfully in daily life, and prepare a spiritual ark for your family through faith.
