September 26: Mark 4:26-29: The Seed Growing Secretly
Women’s Bible Reading Plan Day 269. Today we read Mark 4:26-29. The theme is “The Seed Growing Secretly.” Through Jesus’ parable, we learn to trust that the kingdom of God continues to grow, even in places we cannot see. This page includes Mark 4:26-29 Scripture, devotional reflection, meditation questions, a daily devotional verse, prayer, and life application.
Sometimes we long to see change right away. We pray for family members and hope they will turn back to God soon. We serve and hope to see fruit quickly. We sow tears, prayers, patience, and love into our children, marriage, work, relationships, or personal growth, yet the results may seem hidden for a long time.
But in Mark 4, Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is like seed cast into the ground. A man sleeps and rises, night and day pass by, and the seed springs and grows up, though he does not know how. God’s work is not always loud or immediately visible, but He is still working.
Dear sister, perhaps you are in a season where you cannot yet see what God is doing. Do not lose heart. The prayers, obedience, love, patience, and faith you have sown before the Lord are seen by Him. The seed is growing secretly, and in His time, He will bring the harvest.
In Mark 4:26-29, Jesus uses the picture of a growing seed to teach the mystery of God’s kingdom. A man casts seed into the ground. Then he sleeps and rises, night and day, and the seed springs up and grows, though he does not fully understand how.
This parable comforts us: the growth of God’s kingdom does not depend completely on human control. We can sow, water, and wait, but we cannot force the seed to grow at our chosen speed. It is God Himself who brings life, changes hearts, and causes His kingdom to grow.
Sisters, this speaks tenderly to our everyday lives. We often carry so much, and when we do not see results, we may begin to wonder: Am I not doing enough? Are my prayers making any difference? Does my faithfulness even matter? But Jesus reminds us that some growth is happening under the soil. Some changes begin quietly in the heart. Some fruit has not yet appeared, but it is already being formed in God’s hands.
Today’s theme, “The Seed Growing Secretly,” invites us to trust quietly. Sow faithfully. Wait patiently. Leave the results with God. Even when we cannot see it yet, the kingdom of God is still growing in hidden places.
1 In what area are you longing to see results right away? A family member’s change, a child’s growth, fruit in your service, healing in a relationship, or a breakthrough in your own life?
2 Jesus says the seed springs and grows, though the man does not know how. How does this comfort you and remind you that you do not have to carry every outcome on your own shoulders?
3 When you cannot see fruit, are you more likely to feel discouraged, compare yourself with others, or question God? What anxiety do you need to place in the Lord’s hands today?
4 What small “seed” can you continue to sow today? Perhaps a gentle word, a prayer, one act of obedience, one step of forgiveness, or a quiet choice to keep loving the Lord in ordinary life.
Today, let us enter Mark 4:26-29 with these questions. Do not despise the small seed, and do not look down on quiet seasons. God often does His deepest work when we cannot yet see it.
Let us take a quiet moment and place our hurry, disappointment, and waiting into the Lord’s hands. Then let us begin today’s reading together.
“And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.”
— Mark 4:27
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
✨ Thank you for walking through today’s Scripture with us, dear sister.
Mark 4:26-29 reminds us that the growth of God’s kingdom is often quiet, hidden, and yet very real. We can sow and wait, but it is God Himself who makes the seed spring up and grow. Now let us bring the things that seem fruitless or unseen before the Lord, and ask Him for faith and patience.

Ask the Lord to Help Me Trust When I Cannot See
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that when seed is placed in the ground, the harvest is not seen right away. Many times, I become anxious while I wait, and I feel discouraged when I cannot see change. But You know every seed, and You understand every hidden season.
Lord, help me believe that You have not stopped working. Even when I cannot see the result, You are still at work in hearts, relationships, families, and deep within my own life. Quiet my heart, and teach me not to judge Your faithfulness only by what my eyes can see. Amen.
✨
Ask the Lord to Teach Me to Sow Faithfully
Lord, many times I want to control the outcome. I want my effort to be seen quickly and my prayers to be answered in the way I expect. But You remind me that my calling is to sow faithfully, not to force the seed to grow.
Help me do what is placed before me today: to keep praying, keep loving, keep obeying, speak gently, and be faithful in small things. Do not let me give up because growth is slow, and do not let me lose joy because others do not see it. I place the timing of growth and harvest in Your hands. Amen.

Ask the Lord to Comfort Me in the Weariness of Waiting
Heavenly Father, You know that waiting can be tiring. When I have prayed again and again for my family, children, relationships, service, or my own life, yet still do not see clear change, my heart can become weary, and sometimes I begin to doubt.
Please gently strengthen me. Remind me that my tears are not ignored, my prayers are not wasted, and my hidden faithfulness is seen by You. Let Your comfort renew my strength, so that I will not lose hope while I wait. Amen.
🌍
Interceding for Sisters
Heavenly Father, I also pray for the sisters around me who are waiting. Some are waiting for family members to turn back to You. Some are waiting for a relationship to be restored. Some are waiting for hope in sickness. Some are waiting for life to begin again. Please draw near to them and remind them that they are not waiting alone.
Give them a gentle and steady faith. Help them trust You when they cannot see, and let Your love hold them through long seasons. Help us encourage one another, not rushing to judge the results, but watching together for the work of God. Amen.
After reading Mark 4:26-29, we see that the growth of God’s kingdom is not something people can fully control. The seed falls into the ground, quietly sprouts, slowly grows, and one day reaches harvest. People may not understand the whole process, but God knows.
Dear sister, today the Lord gently reminds you: do not despise the small seeds you have sown, and do not lose heart because you cannot yet see the results. Your prayers, tears, patience, gentleness, and faithfulness are all seen by God. Perhaps they are still under the soil. Perhaps they have not yet bloomed. But God is making them grow.
May you keep hope while waiting, remain faithful in ordinary days, and believe even when you cannot see: the kingdom of God is growing secretly, and in His time, the Lord will bring His beautiful harvest.
