Day 83 of the Women’s Bible Plan: Read Acts 18:1-4 and reflect on Priscilla, who served together with her husband Aquila. Through their hospitality, shared work, and connection with Paul in Corinth, this devotional helps women consider how marriage, home, work, and daily life can become places of faithful service to God.
Some ministry happens from a pulpit, and some ministry happens around a table. Some service is seen by many people, while some is hidden in hospitality, work, companionship, and everyday faithfulness. God does not only use those who preach publicly. He also uses households that are willing to open their doors, offer their skills, and walk with others in the work of the gospel.
In Acts Chapter 18, we meet a precious couple: Priscilla and Aquila. Because Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome, they came to Corinth. On the surface, they were people affected by political upheaval and forced relocation. Yet under God’s providence, they met Paul there and became important coworkers in the ministry of the gospel.
Priscilla’s story reminds us that a woman’s spiritual life is not only formed in private devotion, but also in marriage, family, work, hospitality, and shared service. She did not serve in isolation. She served together with her husband Aquila. Their home, their trade, their relationships, and their daily life were all brought into God’s larger work of spreading the gospel.
Acts 18:1-4 tells us that Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth. There he found a Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome. Paul came unto them. Because they were of the same craft, for by their occupation they were tentmakers, he stayed with them and worked. Every Sabbath, Paul reasoned in the synagogue and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.
At first glance, this passage simply explains where Paul stayed in Corinth and how he supported himself while serving. Yet hidden in these few verses is a beautiful spiritual picture. Priscilla and Aquila did not appear in a calm and easy season. They had experienced displacement, social pressure, and the need to rebuild life in a new city. Yet in that very place, God brought them into connection with Paul.
Priscilla and Aquila’s ministry began with hospitality and shared life. They had the same trade as Paul, so they worked together and lived together. For them, service to God did not begin after ordinary responsibilities were removed. It unfolded through daily work, household space, vocational skill, and relationships. Their tentmaking provided for real needs, but it also became a bridge that connected them to a servant of God.
From the perspective of “Women in the Bible,” Priscilla is especially worth noticing. She is often mentioned together with Aquila. Her story reminds us that serving together in marriage does not mean one person disappears while the other shines alone. In the Lord, husband and wife can carry burdens together, welcome others together, learn together, and serve together. Priscilla and Aquila became a beautiful example of household ministry in the early church.
Today’s theme, “Priscilla: Serving Together with Aquila,” invites us to reflect: Can our homes, marriages, work, time, and resources also become places God can use? Serving God does not always begin on a public platform. Sometimes it begins with a meal, a guest room, a workplace, an act of hospitality, or a heart willing to walk with others.
1 Priscilla and Aquila were forced to leave Rome because of circumstances beyond their control, yet in Corinth they met Paul and entered into God’s larger arrangement. Have you ever experienced a season when your plans were interrupted, your environment changed, or you had to begin again? How does this passage remind you that God may be preparing new coworkers, new service, and new grace in unexpected transitions?
2 Priscilla and Aquila welcomed Paul and worked alongside him. Could your home, time, work, skills, or resources also become a place of blessing, gospel support, hospitality, or encouragement for brothers and sisters? Are you willing to see daily life as part of serving God?
3 Priscilla and Aquila appear together as a witness of serving in unity. If you are married, is there space for you and your spouse to seek God together, support one another, and serve with one heart? If you are not married, how does this passage shape your view of marriage—not merely as a relationship for personal fulfillment, but as a covenant that can honor God and serve others?
As you read Acts 18:1-4 today, do not see this passage only as a small detail in Paul’s journey. Notice Priscilla, a quiet but important woman. Together with Aquila, she shows us how a household can be placed by God in a time of disruption, become connected to gospel work through daily labor, and participate in the mission of Christ through hospitality and partnership.
Take a quiet breath before you begin. Bring your home, marriage, work, time, resources, and willingness to serve before the Lord, and let His Word meet you there.
“And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.”
— Acts 18:3
18 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
✨ Thank you for walking through today’s Scripture with us, dear sister.
Acts 18:1-4 shows us that after displacement and rebuilding, Priscilla and Aquila came to Corinth, welcomed Paul, lived and worked with him, and became connected to the ministry of the gospel. Now, let us bring our homes, marriages, work, resources, and willingness to serve before the Lord in prayer.

Offering Daily Life for God’s Use
Lord, Priscilla and Aquila did not wait until every practical responsibility disappeared before they served You. They made tents, welcomed Paul, lived and worked with him, and connected their daily life to the mission of the gospel. Help me also see that my home, work, table, time, skills, and relationships can become places You use.
Sometimes I think ministry only happens through church programs or public roles, and I forget that You also value faithfulness in ordinary life. Give me a heart willing to offer what I have. Teach me to welcome, listen, accompany, provide, encourage, and bear witness to Christ in my work and responsibilities. May my life not be separated from my faith, but become an altar that honors You and blesses others. Amen.

Learning to Serve Together in Marriage
Father, Priscilla and Aquila are often mentioned together. Their lives show us that a husband and wife can walk together in the Lord, support one another, and serve together. Lord, if I am married, help my spouse and me not only to share a household, but also to seek Your will together. Heal self-centeredness, competition, coldness, and misunderstanding between us, so that we may communicate in love, align ourselves with Your truth, and build one another up in service.
If I am not married, use this passage to shape my view of marriage. Help me not only long for someone to meet my needs, but also desire a relationship in which both people fear You, serve others, and carry Your calling together. Whatever my marital status may be, teach me first to grow in faithfulness, maturity, humility, and love before You. Amen.
🧑🧑🧒🧒
Father, I also pray for the couples and families around me. Bless husbands and wives who desire to serve You with one heart. Help them pray together, support one another, and seek Your guidance even in the busyness of daily life. For couples experiencing pressure, misunderstanding, ministry weariness, or different directions, please give them grace to communicate, forgive, and become aligned again in You.
I also pray for single sisters, sisters carrying family responsibilities alone, and sisters whose spouses do not yet believe. Lord, accompany them personally. Do not let them feel alone on the road of serving You. Provide spiritual companions, church support, and faithful people to walk with them, so that they may be strengthened, used by You, and experience the richness of Your grace in their own place. Amen.

Praying for Homes That Serve the Gospel
Compassionate God, I also pray for Christian families, missionary families, church workers’ families, and believers who bear witness to You in the workplace around the world. Many households are trying to follow You amid instability, relocation, financial pressure, cultural differences, and ministry challenges. Many couples and families are still learning how to bring faith into everyday life, instead of limiting it to Sundays or church activities.
Lord, strengthen them. May more homes become like the home of Priscilla and Aquila—willing to open their doors, offer their resources, use their vocations for You, bless others through relationships, and become witnesses of the gospel. Raise up more couples who serve in unity and more spiritual families who support one another, so that the gospel may spread through cities, workplaces, neighborhoods, and nations. Amen.
After reading Acts 18:1-4, we see that Priscilla and Aquila did not begin serving in an ideal, peaceful, or perfectly prepared situation. They had experienced relocation and rebuilding, yet in Corinth they met Paul and opened their home, work, and life for God’s use. Their story reminds us that ministry does not always begin far away, and it does not always begin from a pulpit. Often, it begins in our homes, workplaces, tables, and daily relationships.
As we close this page and return to real life, perhaps today will include housework, work responsibilities, children, bills, meetings, traffic, ministry arrangements, or conversations with a spouse and family members. Remember this: these daily things are not obstacles to spiritual life. They can become places where we practice love, hospitality, unity, faithfulness, and witness.
May today’s Scripture remind you not to despise the home, vocation, time, and relationships God has placed in your hands. Like Priscilla, may you serve with others in your own place, walk with your household in faith, and remain united with God’s heart. May your home and daily life become a place where the gospel can rest, grow, and bless others.
🎉🎉 Congratulations on completing today's devotion! 🎉🎉
