Day 150 of the Women’s Bible Plan: Read Romans 16:3-5 and reflect on the home of Priscilla and Aquila, a married couple who served alongside Paul and welcomed the church into their house. Through their example, this devotional helps women consider how a home can become a place of gospel ministry, and how marriage can become not only a relationship of love, but also a shared calling in the kingdom of God.
When we think of “home,” we may first think of rest, meals, children, chores, bills, and ordinary routines. We may also think of relational pressure, miscommunication, long-term tiredness, or unfinished responsibilities. For many of us, home is the most honest place. It is where we cannot easily hide our emotions, and where our weaknesses often show most clearly.
But Romans Chapter 16 gives us a beautiful picture: a home can be more than a place to live. It can become a place where the gospel is welcomed, believers are strengthened, and the church is built up. Priscilla and Aquila were not only Paul’s close friends; they were also his fellow workers in Christ Jesus. Their home became a gathering place for the church.
This reminds us that marriage and family are not only meant to meet personal needs. They can also become spaces for serving God, blessing others, welcoming the gospel, and building disciples. A home that belongs to God does not have to be large, perfect, or full of resources. But when a home is open to the Lord—open to prayer, hospitality, truth, love, and people—it can become a place where His grace flows.
Romans Chapter 16 is the closing section of Paul’s letter to the church in Rome, and it is filled with personal greetings. In today’s passage, Paul especially greets Priscilla and Aquila, calling them his “helpers in Christ Jesus.” He also says that they had laid down their own necks for his life, and that not only he, but also all the churches of the Gentiles, gave thanks for them. Then Paul adds, “Likewise greet the church that is in their house.”
Priscilla and Aquila were a remarkable married couple. They appear several times in Scripture and are often mentioned together. They lived and worked with Paul, and they also welcomed and taught others. Their marriage was not closed off in a small world of only two people. In Christ, it was opened toward the work of God. Their home was not only a place of residence; it became a place where the church gathered, the gospel was shared, and believers were built up.
This does not mean that every home must be opened in the exact same way, nor is it meant to place heavy ministry pressure on every couple. The main issue is not the form, but the direction: Are our homes willing to be used by God? Is our marriage centered only on our own comfort and needs, or are we also willing to seek God’s heart together? Is there space at our table, in our living room, in our conversations, prayers, time, and resources for the love of God to flow toward others?
“The church in their house” also reminds us that the church is not only a meeting inside a building, and faith is not only a Sunday gathering. The earliest believers often gathered in homes for teaching, breaking bread, prayer, and fellowship. A home centered on Christ can become a place where spiritual life is nourished. A husband and wife who love the Lord together can become vessels who support one another, serve together, and bless many others.
Today’s theme, “The Church in Their House,” invites us to reflect: Can my home become more of a gospel space? Not a space of outward perfection, but a place where people can experience welcome, prayer, truth, warmth, and the love of Christ. For married sisters, it also invites us to consider whether marriage can be more than managing responsibilities and solving problems, and instead become a shared calling before God.
1 Paul calls Priscilla and Aquila his “helpers in Christ Jesus.” Is your marriage, family, or closest relationship centered only on daily arrangements and personal needs, or is there space to seek God’s will together, encourage one another, and serve with one heart?
2 Paul mentions “the church that is in their house.” If you saw your home as a place God could use, what kind of space would you hope it could become? A place of prayer, hospitality, comfort, Bible sharing, or a place where family and friends can experience the love of Christ?
3 Family ministry does not always have to be dramatic. It can begin with small acts: one meal, one welcome, one prayer, one encouraging word, one family devotion. What is one small step you can take now to make your home more open to God and to others?
As you read Romans 16:3-5 today, do not see this passage merely as a few words in a greeting list. Notice the beautiful witness of Priscilla and Aquila: their home was open to God, their marriage was connected to the gospel, and their service blessed Paul and the churches.
Take a quiet breath before you begin. Bring your home, marriage, family relationships, capacity for hospitality, desire to serve, and living space before the Lord, and let His Word meet you there.
“Likewise greet the church that is in their house.”
— Romans 16:5
3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
✨ Thank you for walking through today’s Scripture with us, dear sister.
Romans 16:3-5 shows us that Priscilla and Aquila were not only husband and wife, but also Paul’s fellow workers in Christ Jesus. Their home was opened to the church and became a place where believers gathered and the gospel was served. Now, let us bring our homes, marriages, close relationships, desire to serve, and everyday spaces before the Lord in prayer.

Letting Christ Rule My Home First
Father, thank You for reminding me through Priscilla and Aquila that home is not only a place for meals, rest, chores, and real-life pressure. Home can also become a space where Your grace is at work. Lord, I confess that many times my home is filled with busyness, tiredness, complaints, emotions, and unfinished tasks. I often think only about how to get through the day, and I forget to invite You to rule over my home.
Please begin by renewing my heart. Help me not to chase a perfect home, but a home filled with Your presence. Help me not to demand that everyone meet my expectations first, but to let my own words, attitudes, and choices be changed by You. May my home have less coldness and more prayer, less arguing and more forgiveness, less self-centeredness and more serving one another. May Christ truly be the Lord of my home. Amen.

Learning to Serve Together in Marriage
Lord, Priscilla and Aquila were called fellow workers in Christ Jesus. They did not only live together; they also took part in gospel work together. Please bless my marriage, or shape my understanding and preparation for marriage. Help me see that marriage is not only companionship, shared responsibilities, and building a family. It can also be a relationship where two people learn to love You, obey You, and serve You together.
If I am already married, help my spouse and me not only to discuss bills, children, chores, and plans, but also to speak about faith, prayer, service, and Your will. If we are not always in the same place spiritually, if there is misunderstanding or weakness between us, give us patience and humility as we learn to become more united. If I am not married, shape in me a healthy vision of marriage. Help me not merely seek someone to fulfill my needs, but prepare me to become someone who can glorify You together with another. Amen.
🧑🧑🧒🧒
Father, I also pray for the couples and families around me. You know that many homes are under pressure: communication is difficult between husbands and wives, parent-child relationships are tense, work and daily life are exhausting, and even ministry can sometimes become a burden. Some families want to love You but do not know how to bring faith into everyday life. Some couples long to serve together but are often pulled apart by practical struggles.
Lord, please help them personally. Heal misunderstandings between husbands and wives. Restore prayer in the home. Give grace for forgiveness and new beginnings. Raise up more couples and families like Priscilla and Aquila—not attracting others through perfection, but blessing the church and their neighbors through genuine love, humble service, open hearts, and passion for the gospel. Amen.

Praying for Homes and House Churches Around the World
Compassionate God, I also pray for families and churches around the world. In many places, believers cannot gather openly and can only worship You in homes, small groups, and hidden places. Many families are also struggling through war, poverty, displacement, stress, and broken relationships. Lord, strengthen every family that worships You, serves You, and welcomes others in the home.
Please protect house churches that gather in difficult environments. Give them wisdom, peace, and courage. Help Christian families around the world not only seek their own safety and comfort, but also become lamps for the gospel. May more homes be renewed by Christ. May more tables become places of hospitality, more living rooms become places of prayer, and more marriages become witnesses to Your love. Amen.
After reading Romans 16:3-5, we see that the home of Priscilla and Aquila was not only their private dwelling place; it was also a place where the church gathered. Their marriage did not remain only in the love between two people, but was opened toward the work of God. Their household did not revolve only around their own needs, but became a space for gospel ministry.
As we close this page and return to our own homes, there may be dishes waiting, bills to handle, children’s voices, differences between husband and wife, tiredness from work, or tensions that are not yet resolved. But remember this: the home God uses does not have to be a perfect home. It is a home willing to be opened to Him. He can bring comfort beside an ordinary table, strengthen faith through simple prayers, and reveal the love of Christ through sincere hospitality.
May today’s Scripture remind you that your home can become a place of gospel ministry. May the Lord first renew your heart, and then renew your household. May your marriage, parent-child relationships, table, living room, prayers, and ordinary routines slowly become a space where grace flows, lives are built up, and Christ is lifted high.
